According to the Local Newspaper  Lieutenant Samuel Gerard Rimmer  was killed on the  4th May 1916  son of the Late Samuel Dutton Rimmer of Winwood Woolton  and  Lieutenant Samuel Gerard Rimmer  resided at  Rock Mount Woolton . Lieutenant Samuel Gerard Rimmer  age 38 was educated  at Sedbugh  College and at the time of his enlistment  was  working at Messer’s Carver Brothers cotton brokers of Manchester

 Lieutenant Samuel Gerard Rimmer  was firing a couple of Guns  up and close to enemy  wire The enemy returned fire  and one of the shells  striking him on the head   killing him instantly                        

Lieutenant Samuel Gerard Rimmer served in the 18th Royal Field Artillery Killed in Action 4th May 1916.
