Robert Southern

Mother Annie  married 3 times. 1st. Marriage  to Thomas Southern.  25th February 1868 St Nicholas Church Halewood.  Thomas Southern died 1889. 2nd. marriage to George Webb cannot prove marriage, On 1901 census George Webb and Annie Webb & 3 off Annie’s Southern Children.                  3rd Marriage to William Peter Roberts 16th November 1912 at  St Augustine Church Everton.& Roberts on  brother Joseph CWGC record 

   Robert born 30/3/1880 baptized with brother Edward 1/10/1882  St Peter’s Woolton. Private Robert Southern in 1901 age 19 employed as labourer   living with stepfather George Webb and mother Annie ,living with brothers Step sons to George Webb. Thomas aged 13, Joseph aged 9 living at 10 Berrington Avenue  Woolton

  On 10th September 1904 at St Peters Church Woolton. Robert aged 22 married Sarah Jane Neild aged 20( Sarah Jane father David Neild a Toolsmith.) and Roberts father Thomas a quarryman.

In 1911 Robert aged 29 employed as a Chemical Labourer and living with wife Sarah Jane and son David Robert aged 3 and a boarder.At 26 Kent St Widnes.

Pension to wife Sarah Jane living at 26 Kent St  Widnes and 2 children David Robert born 21/3/1908 and William Leonard 20/3/1912. Robert died from Nephritis (Kidneys) whilst on active service.

According to the Devereux database at the Museum of Liverpool at the Pierhead Private Robert Southern enlisted in 1915 and wounded in 1915 and returned to his employment at the Gaskell Deacon works. In 1918 Robert returned to the colours but remained in the UK. When the Armistice was signed . On the 16th November 1918 was drafted to France and almost immediately left for Germany with the Army of Occupation. There he contracted an illness which proved fatal (Nephritis (Kidneys). Robert was in Germany for 2 weeks then in Boulogne Roberts wife was sent for . But Mrs.  Southern was 5 hours late Robert had died. The only mourners were Mrs. Southern the Nurse and lady whose home were Mrs. Southern was staying.
