In 1901 Norman Mather aged 24 a visitor living with the Sharpe family at 7 Abbey Square (precincts of Chester Cathedral ) Chester. Norman Mather marries Gladys Mary Olive Sharpe daughter Frederick and Anna Sharpe at St Asaph January 1903 Denbighshire.

In 1911 Gladys Mather  and son Alan Frederick Charles Mather living The Cottage Abbots Brow Kirby Lonsdale Westmorland.

In 1909 Norman moves to Australia to farm. When the war broke out Norman Mather was farming in Australia he returned to serve . Norman  returned from Sydney to London on the Ship Beltana. 22nd July 1915 

According to The Devereux database at museum of Liverpool at Pier Head Liverpool . Enlisted as  Private in the 10th Liverpool Kings (Scottish) .  2nd Lieutenant Norman Mather commissioned  on the 12th September 1916.
