Basil Walwyn White

Second Lieutenant Basil Walwyn White born 10th October 1897 (Farnworth Lancashire) and baptized 16th November 1897 at St Nicholas Church Halewood.

In 1911 Father Joseph and Mother Annie Mary (Mackenzie) Living at Strethdene Hillfoot Road Woolton.

Basil Walwyn White in 1911 age 13 a boarder pupil Brynsgol School Rhos on Sea near Colwyn Bay. He continued his education at Sedbergh School. Yorkshire. Second Lieutenant Basil Walwyn White is on Sedbergh School war memorial panel number 3 in the cloisters. ( Lieutenant Samuel Gerard Rimmer also attended Sedbergh School and on the war memorial panel Number 2 in the cloisters.)

Basil Walwyn White obtained his commission at Sandhurst Military College. He trained as a flying observer at Brasenose College Oxford.

Second Lieutenant Basil Walwyn White aged 19 died 8th April 1917 of the 55th Squadron observer and gunner on a DH4 plane serial number A2141. With Lieutenant Bernard Evans was shot down while on a bombing raid on a Chateau at Hardenpont near Mons France. They where shot down over Blecourt by Leutnant Kurt Wolff, both men where killed .

This memorial commemorates Bernard Evans and Basil Walwyn White, airmen of the 55 Squadron Royal Flying Corps. Their aircraft crashed on this location on 8 April 1917. Near Baintigny . Noerd-Pas de Calais
