One of our volunteers just spotted an image on Instagram that has us quite worried. Someone has taken one of the Certificates of Authenticity that accompany our wooden floor blocks and reproduced it on a calendar. Besides the copyright issues involved here, we are very concerned that this makes it very easy for anyone to reproduce the Certificates and use them to pass off any old bit of wood as one of ours.
Our floor blocks formed part of the original floor in the Church Hall in 1957, when John first met Paul. Some were removed twenty years ago following a fire and, while we will always keep some in case the flooring ever needs to be repaired, we have made some of them available for sale.
If you’re thinking of buying one, you can buy direct from St Peter’s! However, if you’re buying from a third party, PLEASE be careful! Make sure that you ask for the Certificate of Authenticity and check the quality. The genuine certificates are printed on high quality paper and all were individually hand-signed.
As a Church, we want to trust everyone but sadly, that trust can sometimes be misplaced. An act of thoughtlessness can lead to something much more serious, and that makes us very sad. We wouldn’t want any of our visitors, or any Beatles fan, to be misled or ripped off.
If you are offered a floor block, and you’re not sure if it’s genuine, we would be more than happy to help.
