Remembering John

This is still the best tribute to John that we’ve ever seen.  On December 8, 2010, as night fell Colin Hall, the custodian at Mendips, turned the light on in John’s bedroom.  It was still shining the following morning on December 9, the 40th anniversary of the day that the UK woke up to the terrible news from New York..
The photograph was taken by Donna Jackson, one of the members of the congregation at St Peter’s Church.  Donna said, “I took this photo as I was driving home from the Cavern at about 1.30am on December 9, 2010. I noticed the light on as I drove past Mendips, and then turned around and went back to take the photo because I thought it was so beautiful. Colin never announced that he was going to do this; it was just his personal tribute to John and he didn’t really expect anyone to notice. I think it was perfect and I’m glad I saw it.”
It may be 37 years since we woke to the news that John was no longer with us, but Colin’s simple tribute is a beautiful reminder that John’s light will still be shining when we wake up tomorrow morning.
